Take Action: Tell State Board of Education Executive Committee to Reject Proposed Anti-LGBTQ+ Resolution

As we work to create schools where all students feel valued and supported, we find ourselves playing defense against policies that reinforce attitudes and institutional barriers leading to discrimination and exclusion of LGBTQ+ children and youth.

This week, we have a critical ask for you: take action to fight with us on the side of LGBTQ+ children and their well-being.

This coming Monday, October 31st, the State Board of Education Executive Committee will be meeting to discuss a proposed resolution from Board Member Brenden Shea that threatens LGBTQ+ students and would put access to school meals in jeopardy throughout Ohio. This resolution was sent to Executive Committee for further deliberation after being introduced and heard in September and October 2022 meetings, and it is possible that committee members may vote on Monday to place this resolution back on the Board’s voting agenda for the November meeting.

Join us and other concerned Ohioans in sending a message to the Executive Committee urging them to reject this resolution, as well as any attempts to amend or revise it, before they meet on Monday.

The Honesty for Ohio Education coalition has a page with resources about the resolution and information on how to contact committee members that you can use to raise your voice in defense of Ohio children and their rights to be free from discrimination – and bottom line, their rights to be children.
