Minority Health Strike Force: Town Hall Meeting Materials
June 6, 2020
CDF-Ohio, in partnership with Policy Matters Ohio and Advocates for Ohio’s Future hosted three Town Hall meetings to inform the work of the Minority Health Strike Force in advance of the June 11 deadline for long-term recommendations from the Strike Force. The goal of these Town Hall meetings is to make sure that voices of our communities are represented and they have the opportunity to inform the recommendations of the MHSF. Below is a description of each of the subcommittees and materials from the Town Hall meeting, which includes a recording and materials from each panelist.
The Minority Health Strike Force was developed by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and charged with developing recommendations to address racial health disparities identified during the rise of COVID-19. They have already released their interim report and are planning to make final recommendations on June 11, 2020. We scheduled these virtual town hall meetings to create a forum to share our expertise and insight with the subcommittee members of the Strike Force.
Healthcare subcommittee: Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Due to social and economic factors that have been studied and are well-known by the members of the COVID-19 Minority Health Strike Force, communities of color are more likely to have underlying health conditions, have less access to care, and experience discrimination when accessing health care services. They may also be at greater risk for experiencing bias in the clinical setting, particularly around decisions about care, care rationing, and lifesaving treatment.
